Premiere: quiet winter - january
We first introduced our followers to quiet winter’s ambient/post-rock soundscapes at the start of September when Brandon Kruze covered their single "escapism” as a Quick Pick. We are very excited to inform you that we’ve learnt a great deal more about this Calgary act.
quiet winter is a project created by Brandon Garay after a horrific accident that nearly took his left index finger. As a guitar player he wanted to continue to create and turned to making ambient recordings in the following years. The debut album from quiet winter will be called Peppermint Tea and is expected to arrive this winter. With a runtime of 46 minutes, the music on the release will employ the help of synthesizers, guitars, and electronic drums to create an emotive soundscape that lies somewhere between post rock and ambient music.
Today we are very excited to premiere the video for the albums second single, “january.” We caught up with Garay for a few words on the song:
“I wrote the song on a cold morning in January 2020. I had my acoustic guitar with no intention of recording but the song came quickly. I Tracked almost every take in succession with very minimal edits. I think it encompassed what I felt that day. Hungover and feeling overly down on myself about the pandemic. However O really so appreciate how everyone may hear it differently. Sometimes I feel it sounds hopeful, others it feels downright sad.”
Check it out!
