Premiere: Counterfeit Jeans - Post Secondary

Edmonton’s Counterfeit Jeans are preparing to release their 3rd studio album, Junior Capitalists, on September 24th. After putting out their last two albums through various labels, the band decided to self-release this effort with a mindset that it would help them simply focus on having fun.

"It may sound cliche, but really, we just wanted to write and record this album without all the headaches, financial and otherwise, that came with the business side of making music. Honestly, we're terrible at it and it was starting to take focus away from what mattered, and that's friends playing music together.”

Along with the announcement of the forthcoming record was the big news that they’ve adopted Cody Blakely as their fourth member. Blakely became an integral component to the band while acting as producer for the new release.

“His contributions to the new album have proven invaluable and are a must as we move forward”

Today, the Cups N Cakes Network is buzzing as we’ve been gifted the honour of premiering the second single from the new album.

“Post Secondary” is a slow burning rocker with face meting guitar licks that takes a different approach than we’ve heard in the past from a band known for the noise they can create. Instead, the vocals are front and centre and more audible than ever before. Singer/guitarist Jed Gauthier dives deep into the capitalistic approach to post-secondary institutions by analyzing the lack of maturity most young adults possess. How can we expect young students to behave like adults? Should we? What’s the solution if we don’t think it’s fair to hold them to that standard? Should university or collage be free? These are the questions that one can’t help but ponder while listening to “Post Secondary.” The song forces deep thought, and this is the true power found within its 3:04 runtime.

Enjoy “Post Secondary” below and mark September 24th on your calendar.
