The Painters
Specks Of Dust // Egg Paper Factory
The Painters debut “Specks Of Dust” is one of the most exciting releases to come out of Montreal for awhile. The album opens with the psych/rock masterpiece “Changes” that ends with a trance inducing drawn out instrumental. They immediately change the pace with a few slacker/folky rock tunes and a spacey jam before bringing out the big guns on the title track.
“I’m a man, but that sure doesn’t tell me who I am, and this job doesn’t make a lot of sense”, frontman Alex Bourque sings over a superb melody. A melody that shape shifts with guitar and base solos and flourishes as the song chugs along until it finally explodes into the final squelching guitar solo. Hands down one of the best songs released so far this year.
