Single Premiere: Mother Sun - Sucralose
Kamloops band Mother Sun are quickly turning heads in the Western Canadian psych scene. Their debut album Caramel Clouds came out last year and they’re already working on a follow-up. We have no details surrounding its release but today we are premiering the first single.
The song has a synth groove, with a hauntingly addled brass section and quirky percussive elements such as claps and glass bells. Frontman, Jared Doherty sings a cautionary tale, using excess sugar intake as a metaphor for humanity’s need to devour everything in its path.
The song was recorded by the band primarily to an 8 track tape machine in a log cabin in the mountains of British Columbia, with digital overdubs and mixing done afterwards at the band’s own Divine Bovine studio. It was mastered by recording engineer Niclas Jeppsson in London, UK.
