Volunteer

Cups N Cakes is nearly always looking for volunteers. The roles that we’re looking for can change, but here’s what we need help with these days:

  • Writer/Reporter: do you love your local music scene and know how to write? Are you a great writer and you like music but don’t know much about your local scene? We need to bring some folks on board who love writing, love music, and are reasonably knowledgeable about one, the other, or both. Our volunteer writers are expected to write one piece every 6 weeks or so; we can keep you busy with album reviews, or if you want to explore other types of articles, pitch us and we’ll help you make them happen. Please attach a writing sample below if this is what you’re applying for; it’s easier to teach someone to enjoy a great record than it is to teach them how to write.

  • Social media whiz: do you know how to ‘TikTok’? Do you like ‘reels’? I don’t know what those things mean, but we need someone who does, and who understands how to be fun on the internet, instead of it just being a link posting machine. We generally post content most weekdays, and we don’t need help with the actual posting of content, so much as we need someone who can give the whole venture a little more personality and reach.

  • Podcast Host/Producer: have you ever interviewed someone? Do you know how to edit a podcast and you think you’d like interviewing bands? We want to relaunch the interview show, and we need a host and editor. We’re not rushing on this one, and we want to find the exact right person. The ideal person has done a long form interview before, is comfortable and fun to talk to, and please, oh god please, is capable of editing and recording their own podcast. If you haven’t done those things before, but still think you’d be really good, please apply: again, we can teach you to make a podcast, but we can’t teach you to be a cool, fun person.

  • Do you not have the time to volunteer, but you want to pitch us on an idea you have for a piece about Canadian music? Email us at cupsncakesnetwork@gmail.com with PITCH in the subject line, and we can help as much or as little as you need to get your piece published.

  • Have you ever started a non-profit in Alberta? Get a hold of us: we have questions. Same email as the above.

Please fill out the form below, and we’ll be in touch!
