Video Premiere: Eliza Niemi - "Glass"
You may know Eliza Niemi as the bassist/vocalist of the Cups N Cakes favourite, Mauno. With the demise of that project, Niemi emerged as a solo artist and released her debut EP, Vinegar, last year. Very different from her work with Mauno, her solo work is best described as sophisticated chamber-pop with folk leanings.
Today we are pleased to announce her follow to Vinegar will be a four song EP called Glass that will arrive on April 17th through Niemi’s Vain Mina Records. The EP will be a step forward musically with lush cello arrangements that support guitar and keys-centred pop songs. Lyrically the EP deals with themes of intimacy, isolation and self-discovery.
Today we are honoured to be premiering the video for the title track from the Glass EP. The song features Matthew Cardinal (nêhiyawak) on synths and Evan Cartwright (Tasseomancy, US Girls, Luka Kuplowsky) on drums. The video was shot, edited, directed, and conceptually conceived by the Ali Vanderkruyk. When asked about the single, Niemi explained:
“Glass is about feeling like myself for the first time in a long time, and how that can be oddly lonely (but not really in a sad way). Or rather, it's equal parts sad and happy. I wanted to evoke some sort of resolve. Not the resolve of finally being happy but the resolve of finally accepting that I'm sad and not letting that be a horrible thing. Letting it be a beautiful and inspiring thing.”
