Release Premiere: Hellenica - Blood Meridian: An Imaginary Soundtrack
James Demos was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada where he honed his talents as a multi-instrumentalist performing in noise-rock and avant-garde bands before relocating to Montreal in 2009. There he continued to nurture his love for experimental music under the name Hellenica, which is the name he still uses to this date.
Hellenica’s newest album, Blood Meridian: An Imaginary Soundtrack, invites the listener on an audio journey that is inspired by the 1985 barbaric western novel Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. Intended as an imaginary soundtrack, this instrumental release pulls the listener into a world of death, hallucinations, blood and guns, creating a surreal backdrop that accentuates the book’s gothic-western qualities and the character’s introspective journeys through the desert. Entirely written, performed, recorded, and mixed by Demos himself, the music uses twangy electric guitars, tape machines, synthesizers, and drum machines to deliver an auditory accompaniment to McCarthy’s literary world.
Blood Meridian: An Imaginary Soundtrack will arrive on November 15th through Somewherecold Records but today the Cups N Cakes Network is pleased to deliver an exclusive premiere of the album in its entirety. Check it out below and pre-order it through Bandcamp.
