Premiere: Sean Davis Newton - Ur Clean

Edmonton’s Sean Davis Newton is a songwriter, producer, and recording engineer whose work has been turning heads on the prairies. With three EPs and a full length album released under the moniker Trace Italian, Newton decided during the pandemic to restart and begin releasing music under his given name. His debut EP, Nobody Lives There, was released in May 2020 and featured a much more focused sound. He followed that up with a single in March of 2021, and today we are happy to announce that Newton shows no signs of slowing down with the announcement of a two song single set to drop this Friday .

Brought up in the small prairie city of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Newton has embraced his roots with his new sound. The music he’s released so far under his given name is best described as psychedelic folk. The songs sway like barley in the wind, imparting sights and sounds of the prairies while touching on themes of decay, identity, class, and climate change.

Today we are very excited to deliver this exclusive premiere of “Ur Clean,” a song that Sean Davis Newton originally released in August 2019 as Trace Italian. This version ditches the two-track tape of the original for a fully realized recording that features Phil Rodda on drums, while Newton provides colour with a combination of mandolin, accordion, and clarinet.

“Ur Clean” (complete with the b-side of John Lennon's “(Just Like) Starting Over”) is due on Friday July 23rd. Enjoy both tracks below and hit that “pre-order” button. Also, look for Newton to release an Aladean Kheroufi produced EP in the Fall of 2021.
