Premiere: Trevor Sloan - Cool As The Shade

Today the Cups N Cakes Network is honoured to announce the new album from Toronto’s Trevor Sloan and premiere its first single. Sloan came on our radar last year with the release of his brilliant album, Green Reflections that ended up being reviewed as a “Pick Of The Week.”

Trevor Sloan tinkers with retro sounds that blend 60s and 70s folk-pop with psychedelia. His music brings to mind blissful summer days where carefree vibes can make the hours melt away into oblivion. It’s no wonder we were very excited to get the opportunity to announce his fourth studio album, The Fur of the Bulrush, will arrive on on September 10, 2021.

The albums first single, “Cool as the Shade” comes to us today in video form. In speaking about both the song and video, Sloan revealed:

“Cool as the Shade” is a breezy, summery song with nostalgic undertones. “For the video, I pieced together fragments from four different public-domain films. The main film I used was Skateboard Sense, which features some amazing skateboarding scenes from 1970s California. I wanted to capture that spirit of youth when you are oblivious to time. My parents recently sold the home where I grew up. It was strange to think that it will not be ours anymore. There might not even be a reason for me to go back to my hometown. Thinking about all the times I had growing up there inspired me to write this song.”
