Premiere: Tim Bruce Johnson - Chameleon
In April of 2020, Tim Bruce Johnson released Run!, an incredible album of indie-rock with power-pop undertones. It was crafted while living in Montreal with a band of close friends who happened to be talented musicians. A year ago, Johnson relocated to Regina and started a job with the federal government while also going back to school, all the while continuing to create music.
Today we are happy to deliver an exclusive premiere of a new song and video from Johnson called “Chameleon.” The song will be found on an upcoming EP that moves into mellower territory.
We caught up with Johnson to ask him a couple questions about his latest song.
Cups N Cakes: What can you tell us about “Chameleon?”
Tim Bruce Johnson: “Last summer, I relocated to Regina from Montreal to pursue a master's degree and accept a government job. The first line refers to, ‘bridging the gap between versions of myself’ which is a nod to policy language and how hard it can be to return to a 'version' of yourself if you spend too long away, ie from the songwriter. The song parallels how this experience/feeling of distance from oneself is akin to ending a relationship; how we naturally adapt to new contexts though it's not always easy.”
CNC: What about this video?
TBJ: “The video was shot at a lake whose name I've sworn to not say due to how secret the cabin is...but it is far north Saskatchewan.”
