Premiere: Aversions - New Whip
At the start of the year we reviewed a four song EP from Vancouver band, Aversions. The EP was called Sharp Left Turns and its blend of post-punk and '80s post-hardcore immediately caught our attention. When we dug deeper, we fell in love with vocalist Sam Coll's caustic musings of everyday topics.
In our “Pick Of The Week” review of Sharp Left Turns, it was revealed that the EP was: "the earlier of the band's pandemic portfolio". This had us anxiously waiting for the promise of more to be fulfilled. Today, Aversions make good on that promise and the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to be the publication helping them premiere their latest single, “New Whip.”
The track was inspired by Nate Powell's visual essay "About Face," and explores how toxic masculinity is passed down like a gene. Enjoy the song in video for below and check out Aversions Bandcamp page here.
