Premiere: Axis Decade - I Am The Sun

Axis Decade is the latest project from longtime Saskatoon artist Callen Diederichs. For over 30 years Diederichs has been a part of the music scene in his prairie city, playing in numerous different bands including The Ecchoing Green, The Oatmeal Savages, Ophelia’s Swim, 2 Headed Kafka, and Lorca. His new, solo project was born while touring with Dumb Angel, a band that we’ve featured in the past with a “Pick Of The Week” album review.

After the tour with Dumb Angel, in which Axis Decade was born, Diederichs teamed up with bassist Devin McAdam and drummer Tyler Smeding to record his debut album to tape. Chad Mason (Shooting Guns, Moths & Locusts) out of Sinewave Studios ran the decks and Matt Stinn (Friends of Foes, The Northwest Kid, Saul Chabot) out of Rainy Day Recording Co. mixed & mastered the tracks that would make up the forthcoming debut album, Half Full of Empty.

Today, the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to premiere the first single from Axis Decade. The track is called “I Am The Sun” and it pulls influence from psych, new wave, and shoegaze. It’s the first single from Half Full of Empty which is set to arrive digitally and on vinyl on May 13th.
