Premiere: Stucco - Free Motion

A new Calgary band is rising from the ashes of the pandemic. Post-Punk and Art-Rock collide to form an exciting new act who’s music is inspired by the disintegration of the modern era as we know it. Stucco released their first single, called “Business Inc.”, in February of this year. It featured angular guitars and shout-speak style lyrics. Although the band states they are still “finding their legs” and working to define their sound, they’ve been drawing serious buzz in their hometown once they began playing live shows after pandemic mandates were lifted in the province. When asked about the new project, Stucco stated:

“As with most new ventures, it is full of excitement and insecurity about our product's future and validity. It has been a thrill to play live after years of percolating our work in isolation. The energy and encouragement we have received from the community floored us. It reminds us that we are not the only ones desperately hoping to reconnect.”

Featuring members from many well known Calgary acts (DRI HIEV, Slut Prophet, Gawker, and Clench), the bands past that leans toward the punk and experimental side of the spectrum is helping them work toward creating something new and make good use of pandemic lockdowns to reinvent themselves as Stucco.

Today the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to introduce the rest of Canada to this fantastic up & coming band and premiere their second single, “Free Motion.” When asked about the track, the band said:

“Free Motion has been two years in the making. Lyrically, the song is about self-acceptance and moving forward despite uncertainty, despite polarity, and despite our failings. Instrumentally, it is about pressure and tension. We tried to create a sound that reflected the world's unrelenting tendency to never stop driving onward, regardless of our ability to keep up. We recorded it in our ramshackle studio at the start of 2022.”

Enjoy!
