Premiere: The This - Drunk Wonderings
Victoria power-pop trio, The This actually began as a "fake band" created by singer/drummer Evan Matthiesen. He recorded their first few songs under the moniker in 2014 in his bedroom studio. The EP was good enough to prompt Matthiesen to turn the project into a real band and the rest is history. The This now consists of Jeremy “Jimbo” Rai on bass, and Reid Blakley (of the Plodes) on guitar.
Over the course of the pandemic, The This stayed busy by spending their time in lockdown self-producing several live sessions videos, as well as their debut album, How Does It Feel When It's Gone?, which is set to be released later this year on Kingfisher Bluez.
Today, the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to be premiering the first single from the forthcoming album. The track is called "Drunk Wonderings" and it’s about drunkenly lamenting past relationships which ties into the albums loose theme surrounding the fear and anxiety that come along with getting older, and facing the reality of letting go of our childhood dreams.
The single arrives today in the form a music video, Matthiesen offered us some details:
”The video was directed by me and shot one day at our house in Victoria. Our friend Mark Verweijmeren from the Netherlands lent his voice acting, and helped us with the concept of a fictional Dutch variety TV show called Kippenuurtje (Chicken Hour) hosted by Willem Van Cluck.”
