Premiere - Aquakultre - Lunch
The Cups N Cakes Network will be the first to admit that we were late to the party when it comes to Halifax, based artist, Lance Sampson who performs under the name Aquakultre. His 2020, Polaris long-listed album, Legacy, blew our minds when we finally discovered it existed thanks to its high ranking status via the Polaris Prize. We’ve been hoping to make up for lost time with coverage of Aquakultre and are absolutely floored to be able to do that today by delivering an exclusive premiere of the second single from his upcoming new album, Don’t Trip.
The track we are sharing is called "Lunch". It was co-written and features additional vocals from his partner Joolsannie. The song boasts downtempo, neo-soul/hip-hop vibes that set the stage for impeccable vocal melodies. Speaking about the track, Sampson says:
"'Lunch' happened pretty organically, and I am so grateful and happy to have Jools on this because it was always a goal of hers to do a song together. "Lunch" is about those moments, those cute dates, those romantic outings together. This song really is about our first date together, listening to records and cooking each other food."
Don’t Trip will be arriving on July 22nd through Forward Music Group and Black Buffalo Records on limited edition vinyl, CD, and cassette, pre-orders are available here. The album boasts a massive guest list yet is said to be a deeply personal project which began in March 2020 while the pandemic lockdown forced him to remain inside with his family. The album is loosely based on the first three weeks of a budding relationship with his partner, Julia when they barely left her bedroom. Eating ice cream and pizza, drinking wine, and listening to Lauryn Hill records was the start of a passionate love affair.
Whet your appetite for new the upcoming new album with the video for “Lunch”.
