Premiere: Hersilia - La Douleur Exquise
The Cups N Cakes Network is excited to be debuting the first single from Rot & Rebirth, the first full length record from Edmonton’s emo darlings Hersilia. “La Douleur Exquise” sounds like a one-hit-wonder that never was, ripped straight out of the late 1990’s, with a chunky Weezer style rhythm guitar line, and a lyrical fascination with Sex and the City. We caught up with frontwoman, vocalist, and rhythm guitar player Dana Clementine to find out more about the song.
“When I wrote this song, I was really inspired by the on and off relationship of Carrie and Mr. Big from Sex and the City. The title, which is also the title of an episode in the series, translates to “the exquisite pain” and I think that reflects the core theme of the piece - a pain that you long for, a pain that you love, a pain you feel like you can’t live without.”
Hersilia is releasing Rot & Rebirth on June 10th, with a release show on June 11th at Co*Lab in Edmonton, with guests Dogman Dean and Misfortune Tellers. The album was produced by Sean Davis Newton, mastered by Terry Tran, and features cover art by Kyra Heneghan-Smith. You can pre-save the full album on Spotify here, and “La Douleur Exquise” will be released on all streaming services this Friday, May 27th.
