Video premiere: Cryptozoologists - "Someone Egged My Car (Live)"
The territories often receive short shrift when it comes to coverage of their music scene, but not for lack of really great bands. Case in point: today, Whitehorse art rock outfit Cryptozoologists are releasing a live video for “Someone Egged My Car”, a delightful scuzzy garage rock jam that manages to feel charmingly unserious and literate at the same time, almost like the lovechild of James Murphy’s lyricism and Daniel Romano’s rock n roll spirit.
The band is led by songwriter Zach McCann-Armitage, with backing from Dawson Beaulieau, Fabian Brook, and Ben Craymer. Their 2020 album Pond Life made our honourable mentions list for the best albums of that year, as well as their song “This Year’s Punks” showing up at #26 on our best tracks list from 2020. Since then, the band took a hiatus from live performance, and have returned with this new, more fleshed out, lineup.
The live video was filmed by Brendan Preston, and edited by Zach McCann-Armitage, with the audio recorded by McCann-Armitage and Dawson Beaulieu. You can watch the video below, and if you happen to be in Whitehorse, you can catch them live this Saturday at Lefty’s Well, with Alex Macneil and the Revenants, and Hannah Mazurek.
