Video premiere: Imogen Moon - Nicolston Dam

Every once in a while, a project like no other slides through our inbox here at the Cups N Cakes Network, and I’m pleased to say that the upcoming album from BC’s Imogen Moon is one of those projects. Moon’s upcoming record When They Start Rebelling (due out July 21st) is a reworking of an album of protest music that her grandfather Doug Randle recorded for the CBC in the early 1970’s called Songs for the New Industrial State.

Oh, and it’s produced by Ian Hendrickson-Smith (The Roots), with members of The Dap-Kings serving as the backing band. It’s one hell of a project.

Today, we’re premiering the music video for the first single from Moon’s record. The song is called “Nicolston Dam”, and it’s about finding respite from the fast pace of urban life, consumerism, corporate greed, and the race to get ahead. The song has a flawless neo-soul groove, showcasing Moon’s detached vocal delivery, which perfectly matches the omniscient point of view of the lyric.

When They Start Rebelling comes out on July 21st, 2023, and “Nicolston Dam” is already available to stream wherever you stream your music.
