Video premiere: Phantom Orchid - Jeepster

Today, we’re excited to premiere the new video from British Columbia’s Phantom Orchid, which accompanies a cover of the 1971 T. Rex single “Jeepster”. Phantom Orchid is the project of multi-instrumentalist Kira Sawatzky, who relocated to rural British Columbia after spending some years as a bassist in a number of Calgary based bands. “Jeepster” is a radical reimagining of the original, with Sawatzky continuing to carve out a space for herself as a purveyor of understated and groovy electronic pop music.

Sawatzky is also behind the accompanying video, which uses found footage to comment on the lyrical content of the song, often focusing on pairs of people or creatures. The juxtaposition adds to the surreal quality of the recording, and is equal parts pointed and hilarious.
