Premiere: Owen Steel - Your Own Imagination
Owen Steel is a PEI born songwriter who, with the debut of his new single “Your Own Imagination” is returning from a pandemic inspired hiatus from the music scene. Cups N Cakes is thrilled to be doing the exclusive premiere of Steel’s excellent new track today, in advance of a new album coming in 2024, recorded by Fredericton psycho-boogie master Keith Hallett. Since 2008, Owen has written and released various folk / garage sounds under his own name, as well as with such acts as The Belle Comedians, Mike Trask, Dana Sipos, and Motherhood.
The new single is a slow build acoustic jam, that showcases Steel’s pitch perfect melodic sense, backed up by an arrangement featuring horns and woodwinds. It feels like the listener is taking a tour through an unknown land, watching the sights and sounds pass you by; the landscape that the song paints feels incredibly vivid, but is somehow also impossible to pin down, like the feeling of trying to remember a dream a couple minutes after you wake up in the morning. Sure to be the soundtrack to many aimless nighttime walks, Steel’s tape echo drenched vocal feels like your only guide into the journey that you depart on for some 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
