We’re pleased today to be premiering the new music video from Saskatchewan’s Wolf Willow, for their new single “Dusty Vinyl” from their upcoming full length LP Soul of Slippery Butte, due out on September 10th, 2024. The video is a spiritual successor to the band’s 2023 video for “Hey Bruce” (which we premiered on the Cups N Cakes Network in October last year), namely in the fact that they share the same leading man, a friend of the band’s who goes by Posthole Jim.

“Dusty Vinyl” is a melancholic examination of our musical heroes, and how the character of the people we look up to reflects on ourselves. It is also one of the only songs I can think of that has a curveball of a key change within the first minute; it’s a great reminder that Wolf Willow is, well, a massive band, and they’ve been doing this for long enough now that they’ve built up a stable of really great little tricks with their arrangements to really make the whole band shine. The largely double-stopped fiddle part is beautiful, and the late addition of a trumpet section the last 30 seconds of the song gives the track just a touch of Southwestern flavour that serves as a perfect coda to the tune.
