Real Sickies, Ominous Cloud, Natural Sympathies, & Gunwale

Quarantunes Part I

Today we have a very special edition of Jeshaiah’s “Quick Picks”. We are calling it “Quarantunes” because every release featured was created during isolation while Canada observes strict social distancing guidelines to fight the spread of Covid-19.

Real Sickies - Quarantined

There are a lot of solo acts that have been able to adapt with relative ease to isolation in comparison to bands that can’t even jam together right now. But that wasn’t going to stop the five members of Real Sickies from writing a whole album of quarantine punk songs from their own homes.

Ominous Cloud - II Demos

Maybe you need something to listen to that has an air of blissfulness about it to get you through these heavy times. This collection of instrumental tunes by Ominous Cloud have a very uplifting feel thanks to happy chords and springy drums.

Natural Sympathies - “Four Accordions (2020)”

Natural Sympathies recorded and mixed this track in a single morning of meditation and is now paying it forward. This is a cover song that pays tribute to Tony Conrad’s original version which employed four violins instead of accordions.

Gunwale - The DEN Series: Week 1

Edmonton’s own Gunwale is powering though this down time with a series of ambient recordings that will be coming out regularly for the foreseeable future. This first instalment started things off on March 29th and has already been followed by collections of Week 2 & 3, so if drone is your thing, you’ve got some catching up to do.
