Chairman, The Besnard Lakes, Geordie Gordon, and Saint Idiot
Chairman – Demonstration II
Edmonton-based Chairman presents us with their newest release, Demonstration II, a sequel to their 2019 debut EP. This release is a new wave-y punk powerhouse, chalk full of overdriven guitar, catchy choruses, and eclectic vocals. Demonstration II, as its title implies, is an awesome demonstration of the distinct style that Chairman projects.
The Besnard Lakes – “Superego”
The Besnard Lakes is a Montreal-based indie rock group with experimental and psychedelic undertones, and their newest single “Superego” encapsulates this nature with a trancelike track, textured with layers of analogue and digital instrumentation. Their classy presentation and their atmospheric, comforting sound is a refreshing and nuanced take on an oversaturated genre.
Geordie Gordon – The Great Divide
Straight outta’ Guelph, Ontario is Geordie Gordon, a key contributor to U.S. Girls and Islands, and also a member of Andy Shauf’s touring band. His debut solo album, The Tower, is self described as “futurefolk”, and displays a contemporary approach to folk with blends of acoustic guitar and synthesizer. It’s catchy and wholesome and deserves a spin.
Saint Idiot – Alternate Utopias from a Nostalgic Future
Edmonton’s Saint Idiot delivers Alternate Utopias from a Nostalgic Future; an experimental and deconstructed pop album that takes elements from a genre that fills our radio stations and flips it on its head with a thought provoking, unpredictable philosophy. It constantly keeps you entranced and in anticipation of every second. This is truly something I have never heard before, and it’s amazing.
