A.Y.E., Treephones, within, and Safeword

A.Y.E. – “BLACK”

Inspired by the George Floyd protests, “BLACK” aims to deliver inspiration through the positivity of making a difference in the PoC communities rather than succumbing to the anger and hatred of the ignorant and racist. It’s a single seeping with wisdom and empowerment, delivering a message that hopefully reaches the ears of others.

Treephones – Pink Objects

The second concept album from Waterloo-based Treephones, Pink Objects is a thoughtfully crafted anthology of stories told through an alternative-pop sound. Singing of the endearing aspect of nature to the bittersweet tale of a road trip, Treephones’ poetic lyricism encapsulates the albums ten songs into the theme of undying love.

within – The Favoured EP

The newest EP from Toronto-based experimental folk band within, The Favoured is two tracks – the first, “The Favoured” is a bone chilling acoustic guitar accompanied by melodic, haunting vocals. The second track, “In Rounds”, a bass and keyboard are added in the mix to make for an equally grim song.

Safeword – Things We Could Never Afford

According to Safeword they had a lot of fun making this album. Likewise I had a lot of fun listening to it. Things We Could Never Afford is an indie pop rock album that’s catchy, upbeat, and juxtaposed to melancholy lyrics. It’s packed with that warm sound indicative of indie rock, a great set of songs for the summer.
