Tush, Soul Boner, Nostic & Nicki, and Feel Estate
Tush - Fantast
A month ago, Toronto’s Tush delivered Fantast, their newest album. It boasts an ensemble cast of creative people, and blends eerie electronica and nu-disco to provide us blessed listeners with a visceral listening experience. The albums fifth track, the seven minute long masterpiece “Jessica F***” personifies the albums sound – mystical and soulful vocals with flavorful, catchy beats.
Soul Boner – Liliana’s Divorce
Soul Boner is Montreal’s Nara Wriggs and Ryan Al Hage, and Liliana’s Divorce is their debut EP. With Ryan’s heavy, punk-esque instrumentals, and Nara’s apathetic vocal delivery, this is an exercise in postmodern production and chaos. Experimental, in-your-face, and an absolute joy to listen to, Liliana’s Divorce will leave you both confused and intrigued, a badass combination.
Nostic & Nicki – Kipus
In the newest album from Victoria’s Nostic & Nicki is 11 tracks that mix world music, hip-hop, and house music to form a banging genre salad of a release. A beautiful blend of analogue and electronic featuring singing and rapping in Spanish, Kipus is bound to impress through its variety of instruments and innovation.
Feel Estate – “backwards ppl”
“backwards ppl” is a new single from Edmonton-based Feel Estate. This is a hard hitting track full of lo-fi distortion, mellow vocals, and an excellent utilization of reversing instruments. Barely making it over the two minute mark, this is a short catchy song that leaves you wanting more from this bedroom-punk band.
