Snake River, Matt Foster, No Museums, and Pigeon Breeders & Ghost Cars
Snake River - The Phantom Carriage
This new release from the Regina based Snake River showcases an experimental blend between old-timey western tunes with some heavy distortion and synthesizers. Inspired by the 1921 film of the same name, this new score does justice to the film's bleak tones and larger-than-life impact. (and as a fun side-note, it was written for the film's 100th anniversary.)
Matt Foster - True Needs
Matt Foster is an artist from Winnipeg with a taste for the rustic. His newest album delivers a contemporary take on age-old genres such as folk, blues, and country. His thoughtful lyrics and subtle strings will bring a tear to your eye. It also has a hurdy-gurdy, you never hear those.
No Museums - Folk Terrors
I always love when an artist I get into releases new music. No Museums newest release features their entrancing vocal delivery with instrumentals that can range from folk-like to full on heavy garage rock. It’s familiar but versatile as ever, and it brings me great joy in watching an artist I admire add to their discography.
Pigeon Breeders & Ghost Cars - Stasis
Nothing gets me going more than some experimental improvement, and this Edmonton-based group brings just that. This new release is unsettling. Its scarce moments of melody are contained within a deep soundscape of sirens, reverberation, and chains. This is not easy listening, this album will freak out even the most decorated experimental listeners.
