The Penske File, Devon Parkin, Void Comp, and JayWood

The Penske File - Home Glow

HUGE Seinfeld fan so when I read the band’s name, reviewing their album Home Glow was an absolute no-brainer! Well, Burlington’s pop-punk band did not disappoint in the least, in fact, I’ve found a new band to follow. Reminding me of the feel good, hook driven music of the 90’s, puts a smile on my face.

Devon Parkin - Sit With Dirt

Devon Parkin’s full length album, Sit With Dirt, showcases his ability to create dream-pop tracks which, at times, are reminiscent of Spandau Ballet and other groups in this same vein. Many of the vocals are placed in the distance, which surrenders to syncopated upbeats which pull your head into an upward direction.

Void Comp - Metropol

I highly recommend listening to Metropol and to do so with headphones on. Their production of the album clearly put a lot of effort into creating an omnipresent, atmospheric soundscape. I was forced to close my eyes to appreciate the cohesive marriage between simplistic acoustic guitar lines and the emotion of slow vocals drowned in liquid reverb.

JayWood - Grow On

Just one year after releasing his orange crush vinyl LP, Slingshot, JayWood snaps right back with a new EP. Absolutely love the inspiration for Grow On, and is the true mark of a songwriter - never let a clever line go unnoticed! His late mother told him to: “grow up and grow on”. Well, grow on my man because this EP is fire!
