Bandcamp Friday Suggestions - November

We are very excited to bring back our wildly popular “Bandcamp Friday Suggestions” feature! In case you haven’t heard, Bandcamp brought back their wildly popular “Bandcamp Fridays,” where on the first Friday of each month they will be waiving all their service fees on the sale of music. They have committed to doing this for the rest of 2021.

Today, the Cups N Cakes volunteers have selected some releases they feel you should support today. If you have the means, please spend some money on independent Canadian musicians today!

Julie’s Pick

On their self-titled full-length LP, Montreal's UUBBUURRUU deliver a relentless and spaced-out trip of heavy psychedelic riffs, chugging grooves, and meaty stoner rock. This is a fuzzed-out, slow-burning, and altogether unholy resurrection of classic 70's metal. Smells like leather, motorcycle exhaust, and that weird smoke wafting from your older brother's bedroom. Recommended entry point: "Feel Alright in Hell".

Joel’s Pick

Are you feeling a little wistful today? Maybe you're looking to meditate for a while or something? Close off the world for a bit and listen to some Yawn Care. Voted best music to breathe to by me 5 deep breaths in a row. If "inner peace" had a sound, this would probably be it.

Branton’s Pick

The Town Heroes released their latest LP, Home, in August of this year. It's a concept album that takes place over a two week period while growing up in Cape Breton NS. There are some very capturing beats/grooves and hooks on this album, and if you don't bob your head, well, you ain't listenin'!

Drew’s Pick

Agassiz's third recorded session forms a four track EP. I'm not sure how I missed it. I could have been in survival mode, I could have been working too much. Mixed by Christopher Joseph Hannah. Pulse 1C is sometimes introspective, occasionally cathartic, often punishing, and eternally inventive. It somehow sounds bigger and more expansive than their other outings.

Shaun’s Pick

Possibly the most interesting band in Alberta right now, Ghostkeeper's sound is constantly evolving and always compelling. They've just signed to a new label and have a brand new record coming out soon, but all three of their previous releases are fantastic and worth picking up before the new LP drops!

Noreen’s Pick

Calgary’s Harsh isn’t taking no crap from no one and they’re not sorry! Seeing them live a few weeks ago blew my mind and they love cats as much as I do!! Found my new favourite!

Justin’s Pick

Crushing death metal intertwined with metallic hardcore from the icy depths of Edmonton. Sealed Fate (members of Stalagmites) are an up and coming band in the wildrose hardcore scene, and they aren't taking any prisoners. Stream their 2020 EP, LEECHING, and don't miss them if they hit a stage near you!

Brandon’s Pick

The second single from Calgary-based ambient musician quiet winter, january is a comforting track with a blend of droning synths and acoustic guitar, providing an auditory embrace through the quiet atmosphere of a still winters day.

Jeff’s Picks

Hey! Jeff here. I’m the founder and content curator of the Cups N Cakes Network. For this Bandcamp Friday, I would like to suggest you support one, some, or all of the releases that have been put out by our volunteer team members. Cups N Cakes is 100% volunteer run and not-for-profit. The people that make up our team deliver our content because they love Canadian music and want to help highlight the amazing work being released across the country. Well… right now I’d like to highlight them, and their musical output. Please consider supporting some of the following releases that have been put out by our fantastic team.
