Three Big Announcements From Natural Sympathies
Regina’s Natural Sympathies is the solo project of Amber Goodwyn (Dialtone, formerly of Cobra & Vulture and Nightwood). Considerable buzz has been building across the prairies for Natural Sympathies as Goodwyn has toured over the past couple years, performing a truly unique show that sometimes blends dancers and projections.
Her debut album is entitled, Porous, will be released on November 15th through Grey Records. The record explores themes of anger, isolation, love, and community. It features drones by Ernie Dulanowsky (Pulsewidth), viola by Amber Phelps Bondaroff, percussion by Justin Hauck, a field recording by Andrea Jane Cornell and was mixed and mastered by Orion Paradis at SoulSound Studios. It will be released on Bandcamp and streaming services, along with a limited edition run of 20” rock flags, designed and screen printed by artist Caitlin Mullan (with download codes).
In other exciting news, Porous has also been made into a film by directors: Adrienne Adams, Ian Campbell, Eric Hill, Elian Mikkola, Mike Rollo, Evie Ruddy and Ania Ślusarczyk. Each director tackled a track from the album, and in sequence they build a narrative about an extraterrestrial named Natural Sympathies whose space ship crashes on Earth. On her ensuing journey to fix and fuel her ship, she ultimately discovers what she really needed all along.
Anyone lucky enough to be in Regina on November 15th will get the chance to check out a special collaborative art party to preview the film and launch the album in partnership with SILT Studio. Artists and filmmakers involved with the film will once again come together and create site-specific installations throughout the venue to expand upon the film universe they helped to create. A special sneak preview screening of all the films will occur at 9:30pm, with a short musical performance by Natural Sympathies and back-up dancers The Mutual Affection to follow. The venue SILT Studio is having their grand opening and this event will be the evening portion of their full day celebration.
