Video Premiere: Owen Davies - "Jenny and the Funny Police"
The Cups N Cakes Network has been swooning over Owen Davies since he came onto the Canadian music scene in 2015. Last year, he released another amazing album called Lollipop Pumpkinhead that made our list of the “Best Albums Of 2019”. Today we are ecstatic to be premiering the video for the album closer entitled, “Jenny and the Funny Police.
The video was made by Pascal Huot (of Pony Girl) whom Davies describes as “a long time bud and collaborator”. The video was edited down from footage of Frederic Back’s 1975 film called "Illusion".
Owen Davies further explains:
“Pascal Huot and his business partner Isaac Vallentin have been making music videos for my songs since I started recording under the Owen Davies moniker in 2015. In September, around the time that Lollipop Pumpkinhead was ready to be released, we were talking about what we could do for different songs. The guys ended up making three videos for three different songs on the record all from archival footage. "Jenny and the Funny Police" is the last of these three to be shared and re-purposes a beautiful children's cartoon.”
When asked about the song itself, Davies continued:
“The song tells the story of the titular Jenny who returns home to her family and childhood community after having been gone for some time. She's a bit weathered from her life away and has a few demons in her closet and acts out to the loved ones around her. The people around her only want the best for her and yet she's self-destructing. For me this song has always felt like that sort of prodigal son story and makes me think of the movie Garden State.”
