Single Premiere: Alpen Glow - "Summer House"
Montreal’s Amery Sandford is as busy as can be. Known as the guitarist/vocalist in the delightful power-pop act BBQT, she dropped a new project in March called Born At Midnite, and now!… only six months later, she is unveiling another project called Alpen Glow.
Alpen Glow is her first solo project and is described as loner pop. Her debut EP, Amertape 2020, is set to arrive on October 2nd (Yup, that’s the first Friday of the month so Bandcamp will be waiving their fees… wink… nudge). The project came to be during quarantine, bored and longing to jam with BBQT, Sandford decided to blend her career as a visual artist with her passion for music. Each track on this EP will be accompanied by a 3D video. Sandford explains:
“I wanted to create these little worlds that I could fall into for hours of the day when we weren't allowed to go anywhere, while making hyper songs that would make me laugh or give me energy in this strange time.”
David Carriere (TOPS, Born At Midnite) recorded and produced the songs found on Amertape 2020, and today we are very happy to share with you the lead of track, “Summer House”.
When asked about the song, Sandford continued:
“I wrote this song during the first weeks of quarantine after going deep into the universe of reality TV, specifically the show Love Is Blind. It feels voyeuristic to watch people on dating reality shows put such an emphasis on finding love, and watching the spectacle of courtship and even marriage go down between two people who hardly know each other. "Summer House" became about the representation of and the aspiration for love in the age of the internet. All the same, in these TV shows I was watching there was always a transportative quality to them that really brought me into that world and kept me there for hours at a time.”
