Video Premiere: Greg Orrē - "Yesterday”
Too Soon Monsoon frontman Greg Torwalt has been keeping himself very busy during the pandemic by creating his first solo releases. On August 28th, he released his debut full length under the name Greg Orrē (pronounced: Gregory). The record is called I Am In It Volume One and is the first of a trilogy of albums, also accompanied by a book of poetry that is now available for presale.
Today, the Cups N Cakes Network is pleased to be premiering the video for "Yesterday”. When asked about the video, Torwalt said:
“The video features footage cut together of 5 year old me and 30 year old me dancing freely in my living room. The song and video are about honouring and appreciating all of the experiences I have gone through that have brought me to where I currently am in my life. The idea for the video came to me a couple weeks ago, while sitting in the Red Chair of Inspiration. I have always loved dancing and singing in my living room as a way to burn off unwanted energy and build up good energy.
As a kid I was like a sponge, and the home video footage used in this video was filmed by my mom after we came home from one of my older sister’s dance recitals. A few years ago, my dad got all of our old home videos converted to DVDs as a Christmas gift, but I was so embarrassed by these videos of young me dancing and singing that I couldn't even watch them for longer than 2 seconds. They brought back a lot of memories of being teased or being told to not act certain ways as a kid (things I thought I had worked through, but obviously not completely). I've struggled through the years with accepting the kid I was.
Writing this song and making this video was a way for me to go back to those memories and compassionately reflect on the stories I’ve told myself about those experiences. I now love watching this video of young me and feel like the “I Am In It” project is a helpful way for me to reclaim my childlike curiosity, joy and presence.”
Enjoy the video below and remember that this Friday is the 1st of the month so Bandcamp will be waiving their fees, making it the best day possible to support Canadian music.
