Premiere: Mother Sun - Five Leaves : Fish & Chips
Today we are excited to share with you an advance listen to two new singles from Kamloops band Mother Sun. We really enjoy the psychedelic-pop this band is creating. Last year they released an exquisite album called SIPS that we featured as a “Pick Of The Week” upon its release so we are eager to hear what they have in store for us now.
The first single is called “Five Leaves” and was inspired by a show in Vancouver at the former venue, Static Jupiter. Front person Jared Doherty explains:
“At Static Jupiter they had soundproofing foam in these ornate picture frames on the walls which I thought was kind of funny. I wanted to write some words that tied that image to the concept of a band performing on the edge of their capabilities, a tipping point where the players are taking risks but their chemistry and confidence hold things together and make a live performance memorable.”
The second single is called “Fish & Chips” and evokes a feel of swimming with its bubbly bass and shimmery guitar. The song is sung from the perspective of a marooned sailor getting drunk while making fish and chips on a tropical beach and wondering if the camera crew he sees on the moon is real.
Both songs were recorded and produced by Mother Sun, and mastered by David Parry of the band Loving. This double single release is out tomorrow through Earth Libraries and Divine Bovine Records, head over here to pre-order.
