Premiere: Devours - “Yoshi’s Revenge”
Vancouver-based queer musician, Jeff Cancade makes incredibly inventive synth-pop under the moniker Devours. Since emerging in 2015, Devours has released two albums, an EP, and most recently, a two song single that we featured as a “Quick Pick.” Through this project, Cancade melds nu-metal, bubblegum-pop, and 8-bit video game scores into infectious pop bangers that deal with themes ranging from body image, to self-love, to masculinity, to gay politics.
Today the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to announce that later this year, Devours will be self-releasing (on vinyl) a double album. Details about the record are limited but we are honoured to be premiering the first single which is called “Yoshi’s Revenge.” Regarding the track, Cancade offered up these details:
"Yoshi's Revenge is about cutting a toxic ex-lover out of my life. I have been through hell and back on my quest to love myself and build confidence, and I don't have the patience for misogynistic guys who are obsessed with masculinity and trying to fit into mainstream culture."
