Premiere: The Naysayers - Yesterday
Whitehorse continues to amaze us here at the Cups N Cakes Network. The music scene in this Yukon city is diverse and fertile. Already this year, we’ve alerted our viewers/listeners to Major Funk, Paris Pick, and Whitney K. More so, in years past we’ve highlighted amazing acts like Cryptozoologists and Groan Boy. I guess we should stop being surprised when we hear great music from Whitehorse because the new discoveries don’t stop coming.
Today we are very excited to introduce you to The Naysayers, a quartet that blend elements of punk, pop, and alt-rock. Led by veteran singer-songwriter Drea Nasager, the band can get your fist pumping or force you to hold back tears. Nasager’s lyrical prowess and powerful voice is strong enough to stand out over the bands all out rock and can morph to a delivery subtle enough to not overpower the slow burners.
Today we are excited to be premiering a song from The Naysayers that falls into the latter camp. The single is called “Yesterday” and it will be found on their sophomore album that is set to arrive on June 25, 2021 via Coax Records.
When asked about the song and the video for “Yesterday”, Nasager said:
“Yesterday has evolved to include and acknowledge the grief from physically losing others in this past year to addiction, and the realization, I will never be able to say goodbye. The video emphasizes the inherent vulnerability of the song because it’s made entirely of my grandmother’s personal super 8 footage from the ‘50s and ‘60s.”
Enjoy “Yesterday” below and check out more from The Naysayers (including this albums first single, “Run”) on their Bandcamp page.
