Premiere: Avalon Tassonyi - Self Titled
Avalon Tassonyi is a folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist most known by their former moniker, Inland Island, who’s 2016 album Zsa Zsa’s Window Opens Slowly put them on the radar of music fans across Canada.
Tassonyi has since left Toronto and returned to the family peach farm at Niagara On The Lake. The familiar surroundings triggered a return to the music they grew up on. Acoustic, folk & country sounds make up their debut album under their given name which is set to arrive on Friday (March 25th) through Vain Mina Records.
Today the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to share an exclusive stream of the album one day before its release date. Tassonyi offered up some of their thoughts on the self-titled debut:
“The album was always intended to be an introduction of sorts. I wanted to show myself within styles I love and feel most comfortable in, without feeling like it had to be only one specific sound I was going for. Then it became a matter of pulling the threads back together so that nothing is too far-flung from anything else. In that sense it’s almost an anti-concept album; there’s a love ballad, a couple country rockers, a protest song, and a few naturalistic folk songs. Some of it is pretty goofy and some is more sobering, and like with everything else, finding that balance has been the key. Grounding myself within the tradition of the folk singer, or singer-songwriter is natural to me and just feels right; from here I feel like I can go anywhere, and always come on back home.”
