Premiere: Major Funk - Interstitial
The Cups N Cakes Network is excited to be checking back in on Major Funk, the Whitehorse party-funk powerhouse known for their high-energy bass-led grooves, soaring vocals, and tight horn section. We last covered Major Funk when we reviewed their debut album, Is That You?, for our “Pick Of The Week” column.
Since that release, the band prepared their second album, The In Between, during the pandemic and we are very excited to report that it will arrive on April 14th, 2023. The album deals with themes of transition and features songs in both English and French overtop of the funky pop perfection that Major Funk are becoming known for.
Today we are premiering the music video for “Interstitial” which was directed by Daniel Little, a Whitehorse-based filmmaker who also has worked as a camera operator on Discovery’s Gold Rush. The video features breakdancing choreographed by Yukon’s Valérie Herdes, performed by Oleksii Ogarov and Kasper Höglund. The dancers have a personal tie to the theme of the song and the album, as both Oleksii and Kasper are in a place of transition as refugees, leaving their homes in Ukraine for Yukon.
