An impulsive new musical collaboration has emerged between Matthew Sweeney from The Elwins and Eric Warner of We Are Busy Bodies: The All Margarines and Spreads Blues Band recorded their first song just last Tuesday, and we’re premiering it for you here today. It’s a warm little slice of springtime called “Can I Get Your Number?”, and you can stream it below right now, or find it on all streaming services tomorrow.

There’s a theatricality to the song that will appeal to the Beach Boys crowd (there are auto-harps and vocal harmonies aplenty), but the charm of the song comes in how that contrasts with the vocal and the lyrics. The lyrics are so simple that they take on a naive quality; this is, after all, a song about someone who is daydreaming about getting your phone number and then falling in love forever. But that naivety is delivered in such a genuine and understated way, and the pairing of that sort of “awe shucks” lyrical style with the meticulous, bedroom-pop Brian Wilson arrangement is what makes this song feel so sweet, while also not overwhelming you. It’s like if Jonathan Richman wrote all the lyrics for the Beach Boys, and they recorded it last Tuesday.

You can stream “Can I Get Your Number?” below, or it comes out on all streaming services on Thursday, March 20th. It’ll be released as part of their debut EP All Hail Lactantia, expected out in May this year.
