Single Premiere: The Painters - "Nameless Star"
We were all big fans of Montreal band the Painters October 2023 self-titled record here at the Cups N Cakes Network. It was a shot of retro infused power pop goodness, and we’re excited today to be premiering the first track “Nameless Star” from their upcoming EP Single Cell Nostalgia, due out April 11th.
The new song is a notable departure from the more meticulous and overdub heavy self-titled record. That’s by design; the new EP is recorded almost entirely live off the floor, and it pays off. There’s a propulsive energy on “Nameless Star” that feels spontaneous and unpredictable, like the band is just having the time of their lives bringing these songs to life. And that guitar tone! It shines in the Nels Cline/Tweedy-esque stabbing noise jams, and there’s an audacious amount of tape delay on it throughout. It’s an excellent pairing of great pop-songcraft, with a killer band, and some adventurous production and arrangement choices.
“Nameless Star” is available to be streamed everywhere today, and the full EP, Single Cell Nostalgia, comes out on April 11th.
