We’re pleased to be premiering the latest release from Montreal folk-informed experimental hardcore band Truck Violence. “He ended the bender hanging” is the second single from their upcoming album Violence, due out on July 5th, 2024 via one of the Cups N Cakes Network’s favourite record labels in Canada these days, the esteemed Mothland. The album is heavily inspired by the band’s small town, Albertan roots, and is a collision of contemplative folk instrumentation with outbursts of intense, crushing noise.

The video, directed by the band, echoes the same juxtaposition of styles as the music, with the somber, banjo driven parts of the song backed by footage of the band exploring the countryside, complete with cows, wood burning stoves, and long treks through the forest. And then, it turns on a dime, as the tremolo picked, distorted-to-hell guitar explodes onto the scene and we see live footage of the band doing what hardcore bands do best. The contrast between the two segments makes the song a unique thing to behold, as if they spend half the song carefully building up a log cabin piece by piece, only to completely destroy it, sending wooden shrapnel and nails everywhere. And then they rebuild, and repeat.

The full album Violence is out everywhere on Mothland on July 5th, 2024. You can preorder the album on Bandcamp here, and check out the video for “He ended the bender hanging” below.
