Laura Hickli, Brick Road, EDDY, and Dil Brito

Laura Hickli - Both Feet In The World, At Least I Can Stand

This Calgary-based baroque pop songstress is the first artist I’ve ever seen sell an official sheet music along with their songs. (She also sells a bath kit.) After listening to her, it makes sense. Her songs use a variety of instruments and can change sound in a way that makes each song feel constantly fresh and mystical.

Brick Road - Brick Road III

This new album from Edmonton’s Brick Road features some real heavy acoustic instrumentals sandwiched between a triage of electronic tracks. This contrast makes for some vast soundscapes that overall carry a feeling of a fantastical unknown. This is my introduction into Brick Road, and I’m already a fan. It’s an album that’ll tickle the spot of anyone who appreciates the abstract.

EDDY - Fluid

Taking inspiration from psychedelic soul, pop, and even theatre, this debut release from Montreal’s EDDY is an overall exciting album. These ten songs feature the vocals of Abigail Galwey and the bass of Danny Trudeau, and their melodies between words and tones is brilliant. It goes way you wouldn’t think and is a groove the whole way through.

Dil Brito - Fences Glimpses Glances

This new release from the Vancouver-based experimental art-folk project Dil Brito evokes feelings of nostalgia and loss. This makes for an album with a DIY, timeless sound. Closing your eyes and feeling the music can take your mind to some amazing places. From abstract sounds to acoustic plucking, this album has it all.
