Aquakultre - Don’t Trip
Aquakultre’s newest album is described as “stepping into a Halifax house party in full swing.” Now I’ve never been there, but if this is the vibe you’ll get from a Halifax house party, I can’t wait to visit. Made as a love letter to R&B, this album features all the conventions and emotion of the genre while providing thoughtful lyrics and an oh so catchy composition.
The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are The Prayers For The Death of Fame
I found The Besnard Lake’s first album at a thrift store today, so I thought it appropriate to check out their newest release. This EP features their classic brand of psychedelia that never ceases to amaze. With mellow synths, a down tempo beat, and some dreamy vocals, what’s not to love?
Nigel Young - Cruel Lessons
This new album from Vancouver’s Nigel Young is a unique take on psychedelic slacker rock. These seven tracks reach down into the young punk in my heart. The third track, “Box Of Glass” features vocals and lyrics from Zara Marie, which give a spooky blues vibe. Cruel Lessons is an album for the rebel inside us all.
Nature Walk - Dinner Music
From Victoria is Nature Walk, a project that mixes the conventional sound of dreamo and pop with the interpretive nature of experimental electronic music. A distorted nostalgic aesthetic aids to the EP’s lyrical themes of losing time and romance. This semi serious subject matter is juxtaposed by tracks such as “Lofi Chill Beats 420” which is two minutes of some bubbly beats.
