Wax Mannequin - The Red Brain
Did somebody order a side of sci-fi world-building with their indie rock? In this album, we explore several parts of time, from the past of Wax Mannequin to the hypothetical future. You can hear the love that was put into this release, and it makes for some ear-catching tunes.
Uh Huh - Uh Huh
Boy, do I love me some funk, and Uh Huh’s self-titled debut release does not disappoint. The featured song “Babylon” gives me some real Alabama 3 vibes, you know what I mean? That dark, quick-paced, hard-boiled style of funk, chock-full of saucy bass riffs and wah-wah by the boatloads. It’s a banger through and through.
Tractor Beam - Nothing Lasts
This song reminds me of old Parks Canada TV bumpers. I’m not sure why, exactly. Perhaps it’s the serene vibes that Tractor Beam gives off, maybe I’m just excited for the summer. Regardless, this is a perfect pair of songs to prepare you for some nice times out in the sun.
Yessica Woahneil - I wanted love, so I gave love
This eight-track release from London’s Yessica Woahneil is lo-fi indie pop with powerful vocals and chiming synths. It’s even a little experimental at times, and that kind of unpredictability really makes songs memorable for me. For those who like the eccentric, this is a must-listen. You’ll fall in love with every song.
