Premiere: Pavel - "Certain Sundays"
Vancouver’s Alex Cooper has been using the alias “Pavel” for over five years to craft experimental explorations of sound and emotion. The last Pavel release, entitled Opus G, was a diamond in the rough - an exciting voyage into the possibilities of downtempo, electronic pop.
Cooper is currently working on the next Pavel release as well as a separate ambient project utilizing guitar and tape loops. Much of this work has been inspired by post-quarantine online collaboration with video artist Kevin Mnz who has also directed several Pavel music videos. Today we are excited to share a new song and video from Pavel entitled, “Certain Sundays.”
Unlike the songs found on Opus G, “Certain Sundays” moves into electronic ambient territory with soothing drone waves rising and falling in the tracks quick two minute runtime.
When asked about the song, Cooper revealed:
”Certain Sunday's is an improvisation on a cheap but obscure Italian synth from 1985 (Siel DK-80). It is melancholic but hopeful which is probably how I was feeling at the time. It's how I usually feel so, no surprise.”
