Premiere: Tim Bruce Johnson - Stupid Now
Tim Bruce Johnson is a Regina based songwriter who cut his teeth in the Montreal music scene for 10 years, cultivating his songcraft in walk-up apartments and rented jam spaces around the city. This culminated with the 2020 indie-rock/power-pop album Run! and also Johnson leaving for the prairies. Since relocating to Regina he’s released on EP called Entirely New and is gearing up to release another on September 16th.
The EP is called Stupid Now and was primarily written on piano, today we are excited to premiere the title track which deals with highly relatable content, Johnson explains:
“The song is about the experience of having a close friend or a relative who has been "(red) pilled" for lack of a better word. It can be difficult to continue to engage with people who have become somewhat radicalized since the pandemic; this song is about the struggle to remain open to a relationship and also the frustration of trying to communicate with people on their terms. The title is a reference to a particular strain of ideology that I personally disagree with and is not at all about any specific person.”
