Sounds From Your Lips // Mothland

Summer sunshine rays peak through a window of a bedroom somewhere while you sleep-in with your lover on Sunday. Entwined in each other's body. The heat, the sweat. Hot! I’m really not writing the latest romance novel. I’m writing a music review. Hard to keep my head in check with this latest release by Montreal’s songbird Meggie Lennon. Sounds From Your Lips is a sensual fantasy. It has me reeling and feeling. This is Dream Pop at its finest. It‘s described as “make-out music”.  Now you get just how steamy it is. Also a great album to blaze away to on a beautiful summer day. Easy to drift away into the world and works of Meggie Lennon.

Sounds From Your Lips was recorded in Montreal, QC at Gamma Recording Studio and was released on July 9th 2021. Take note of the gorgeous cover art featuring Meggie herself and beautiful flowers. Very down to earth like she herself seems. This album says summer love and it’s just in time for your summer vacation or staycation. Lazy mornings in bed or sitting outside with a coffee in the sun.

“Night Shift” sweeps in but not with darkness of night. This one shines a light on the darkness with its bright keyboards, guitars, other ethereal sounds of strings, and things. Chamber-Indie style at its finest. I love when artists add some classical elements. They give it a next level feeling. Reminds me of Esthero but it’s hard to compare really when her sound and style is really all totally her own.

“Jardin” is one my favourites. There’s something about being sung to in French… it’s easy listening on the ears. It’s like a guilty pleasure or very romantic to say the least. Everyone knows it’s the language of love. The slow, steady rolling drums, and I’m rolling dreams to smoke and send up to the universe. The bass was really so nicely featured in this song. Are there cellos I hear. That classical contemporary vibe. It’s brilliant!

“Victim of Excess” has the heartbeat drums... makes you feel it. It resonates with your body. Like your heart wants to match the beat of the song. Meggie politely sings for someone to pour her a drink and make it a strong one. She does so in the most loveliest and delightful of ways. You can enjoy this song and album excessively. That would be fine. If your out and about partaking, do so safely and have a DD with supervision. Be safe and take care of each other whatever you do.

Once you’ve taken in Sounds From Your Lips by Meggie Lennon you’ll be so captivated by it you’ll surely need this one on vinyl for your collection for some heavy rotation at home. Also checkout her other two previous released singles on her Bandcamp page. Your summer will then be totally complete with Sounds From Your Lips by Meggie Lennon and all her lovely and refreshing sounds. Enjoy!

Love Always,

Tachichi

Gremmy Sip // Black Buffalo Records

Halifax based hip hop artist Tachichi is a man of many hats. From rapping, writing, audio production, and video direction, Tachichi has no single-track mind, branching off his talents and utilizing them towards mastering his many crafts. All of these skills come to play in the creation of his newest project, Gremmy Sip.

Gremmy Sip is an album dedicated towards the fight for social justice and the perseverance of the BIPOC and LGBTQ communities. Tachichi uses his prowess in rapping and production to snag the listener early, gripping them with a catchy beat and a solid flow. Then before you know it, Tachichi uses his extensive vocabulary and writing skill to deliver the listener with valuable wisdom.

The LP’s fourteen tracks feature a variety of artists, including Ghettosocks, DK, Uncle Fester, and CEE!!!!!!!!, among others. “Old Timer”, the album's eighth track, features what Tachichi calls a “monstrous beat” from ChanHays. I couldn’t describe it better myself. The songs take different sounds, from the R&B style hooks of “Hey Black Buffalo” and “Listen”, to the full force, aggressive bars of “Spazz Mode”, and interweave it with social commentary, such as “Hashtag BLM”, made in response to the murder of George Floyd.

The fourth track “Tubesocks” is accompanied by a music video featuring Tachichi, Shanii22, and King Los, wherein they perform in front of luxury cars, which are in front of a pizzeria. The creative use of superimposed images and cinematography help accentuate the track by delivering an awesome music video.

Tachichi and his talented ensemble blend fire bars, superb beats, and eloquent lyricism to create a jamming, thought provoking album. It flows through your ears and grabs hold of your brain and heart. Gremmy Sip is a masterpiece of an album and a must listen for anyone who appreciates hip hop.

ODR

May 16th, 16 Hours // Self Released

ODR (One Day Record) is a project hailing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made up of six different local musicians. The group’s first EP was started and finished on May 16th, over the course of 16 hours. Released July 2nd, ODR made it with the intention of raising funds for Prairie Harm Reduction, the local safe consumption site in their city.

Just short of 14 minutes, the EP is full of excitement and anticipation. They did a seriously great job creating a release that makes you want to get involved and help out the cause they are supporting. Each track offers a different kind of bop with intricate lyrics and enthusiastic instrumentals.

My favourite song is definitely “For the Night” with a close second being “Come With Me (Feat. Saul The Singer)”. I really like the instruments and catchy vocal lines these tracks have and think they show off the musical diversity in the group. Zhe The Free lays down some genius verses in “For The Night”, which bleed into Katelyn Lehner’s dreamy chorus. “Come With Me (Feat. Saul The Singer)” opens up with some super groovy drums that pair seamlessly with the bopping bass. This track has not failed to get me swaying side to side yet.

If you’re looking for the inspiring, ‘FRICK YA’ track, look no further than “Put Your Hands Up”. It builds in anticipation and gets the catchy chorus in your head right away. When the melody comes back around again, there is a chorus of people shouting “Put your hands up!”, creating the illusion of unity and excitement. I am a sucker for a chorus of people all singing the same thing, so I have no doubt that’s what hooked me with this song. Are the people at a party? Are they storming out of a grocery store? Are they on a mission to save the universe? Who knows. But they are all singing this chorus together, so they’ve got their shit together and are having a good time.

I am a big fan of this project. The collaboration is cool, the music is great, and the funds are supporting an awesome cause. I think that’s the perfect recipe for an inspiring and wholesome EP.
