Bridal Party, Wares, Dana Wylie, and The Den
Bridal Party - Cool Down
This Victoria-based band says they make pop music that they like. I also like it, and I’m sure you would too. Their music is groovy, and psychedelic, and exudes feelings of anemoia and longing. Their use of vintage-sounding synths and killer bass lines brings me back to the funk of the 70s.
Wares - Graceless/Cloudless
This Edmonton-based band makes some heavy pop with just enough bubble to hold it above the rock. Each song features a music video featuring the singer learning to ride on rollerblades while singing toward the camera with an overexposed aesthetic, which accentuates the sound's vibe - pieces of darkness surrounded by light.
Dana Wylie - Break Blow Burn
“Break Blow Burn” from Edmonton musician Dana Wylie’s new record How Much Muscle is about the hardships of motherhood in an empowering package with the sound of contemporary folk. Her vocal range is incredible, and her sound is instantly impressionable. This is a song I’ll be coming back to in my darker days because I know I’ll need it.
The Den - One Night
The new single from Edmonton indie rock band The Den draws you into the warm embrace of an ambient soundscape, which colours the vintage inspired groove and silky smooth lead vocal. The relaxed drum beat and motown inspired bass line makes this the perfect release to sway, shimmy, and dance along to in the late hours of the night.
